The first proceedings of our conference (in December 2009) has now been published by Frank & Timme (Berlin) and has the title:

Beyond Borders – Translations Moving Languages,Literatures and Cultures. Eds. Pekka Kujamäki, Leena Kolehmainen, Esa Penttilä and Hannu Kemppanen

It is the volume 39 of TRANSÜD – Arbeiten zur Theorie und Praxis des Übersetzens und Dolmetschens. For more information see this leaflet.

Extended deadline of paper submissions: 11 June, 2010

Dear participants of our conference,
due to unfortunate coincidences the message containing the guidelines about the publication of the Translation Studies: Moving In – Moving On conference papers that we sent at the beginning of March did not reach everyone it was supposed to. Therefore we have decided to extend the deadline of paper submissions to Friday, 11 June, 2010. This deadline is valid for everyone who still wants to submit a paper, but since the editing and reviewing process of those papers that have already been submitted is about to begin we would kindly ask for everyone who still wishes to submit a paper by the new deadline to inform us as soon as possible. Please let us know by email (pekkakujamaki @ gmail.com) if you wish to participate in the conference publications, so we know to expect your contribution.

Dear Colleagues,
once more a late but warm thank you for participating in the conference and for making it such an enjoyable and rewarding event. We look forward to seeing you in Joensuu again! We would like to apologise for the delay in approaching you with information about the publication of the papers (and to lay the blame on the teething problems with the launch of the University of Eastern Finland).

A large number of interesting papers were delivered at the conference, and our aim is to publish selected papers in 1-3 thematic volumes, either as peer-reviewed collective volumes or special issues of scholarly journals.

At the first stage, would like to invite first drafts of your contributions by 1 April 2010 as email attachments (pdf files!) to the address pekkakujamaki@gmail.com. Please refer to the instructions that are specified in this pdf-file

A forewarning of possible inconveniences at Helsinki-Vantaa airport

The incoming and outgoing flight traffic at Helsinki-Vantaa airport, Finland, may be disrupted due to the strike of Finnish Aviation Union Members. Finnair tries to operate services normally but there may be some delays and cancellations, and the baggage handling system is congested.

In order to ease the situation with the baggage handling, passengers are asked to minimize the amount of checked baggage.

Changes in the conference programme

Some changes have been made in the conference programme due to cancellations or travel arrangements. We have tried to keep thematically linked papers together, therefore some papers have been rescheduled.

We kindly ask you to check the updated programme. If there are problems with the time of your paper, please inform us by 1 December at the latest to allow us to make the final changes in the programme.

Publication of conference proceedings

Selected papers presented in the conference will be published in one or more volumes, either as collective thematic compilations or special issues of scholarly journals. More information about the publication, including style-sheet instructions and submission deadlines, will be announced during the conference. No written version of the conference presentation is required prior to the conference.
